A Look Back at CDI Behind the Scenes

In 2012, UDA Technologies featured Challenge Design Innovations in a case study. It offered a look at the planning behind the ropes courses, zip lines, and other projects people see in the field.

At the time, CDI was coordinating construction crews, trainers, and inspectors across the country. Project manager Allison Wilson described the challenge of keeping track of estimates, schedules, files, and annual inspections for hundreds of clients. The team had built a custom estimating system for the materials and labor that go into a challenge course, because standard construction cost lists did not fit the work.

The software in the story belongs to 2012, but the work behind it will sound familiar to anyone managing a camp, conference center, or adventure program. A new course needs careful planning. An existing one needs inspections, maintenance, and trained staff. And someone needs to keep track of what comes next.
