First Flight Adventure Park is a self-guided, aerial ropes course built on the sound of the Outer Banks. Designed for ages 6 and up, it offers challenges for a wide range of skill levels. The centerpiece is a central tower with branching platforms that rise from 12 ft to 50 ft above ground. Climbers can take on up to 50 obstacles and 14 ziplines, all while staying safely harnessed.

Design Highlights

  • Hurricane-themed layout: The design reflects the Outer Banks setting, with the central tower as the “Eye of the Hurricane” and courses radiating outward like storm bands.
  • Multiple difficulty levels: Ranging from “Tropical Storm” through Category 1–5, each course offers progressively harder challenges.
  • Zipline integration: Every main course ends with a short zipline back to the tower, while two newer courses added in 2019 emphasize ziplines even more.
  • Safe and repeatable: Climbers remain secured at all times and can complete 3–4 courses (about 21–28 obstacles) in a typical 2-hour session.

Safety & Guest Flow

  • Training session: Every guest completes a short orientation covering gear use and safety before starting.
  • Staff supervision: Guides oversee the course to ensure safety, while participants progress independently.
  • Accessibility rules: Participants must be at least 3'9" tall, under 250 lb, and age 6 or older. Anyone under 5' must climb with a partner at least 5' tall.
