Project Overview

Challenge Design Innovations designed and built the zip line attraction at Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort in Corbin, Kentucky. The project added another adventure activity to a well-established campground and outdoor recreation destination near Cumberland Falls.

Today, the attraction includes the 650-foot Big Zipper, a pair of zip lines that allow guests to zip solo or race another participant. Riders can reach speeds of up to 35 mph before finishing the experience with a drop tower descent.

For younger adventurers, the resort also offers the 185-foot Little Zipper, creating a kid-friendly zip line option and expanding the attraction to more families.

A Zip Line Built for a Campground and Adventure Resort

Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort offers cabins, RV sites, tent camping and outdoor adventures in Kentucky's Cumberland Falls region. Its activities include whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, hiking experiences and zip lining.

Adding a commercial zip line to a campground gives guests another reason to stay on property and another activity they can fit into a larger vacation or outdoor adventure.

The Sheltowee Trace project is a good example of how CDI can design an attraction around an existing campground, resort or outdoor recreation business rather than requiring the operator to develop an entirely separate adventure park.
